Mentorship Program

The Hutchinson Bell’s Mentoring Program is designed to provide current students and recent graduates with an opportunity to connect with successful alumni and friends of Florida College. The volunteers below have agreed to mentor two students or graduates each year by offering career insight and advice through quarterly phone calls or emails. If you are interested in requesting a mentor, please review the list of volunteers and complete the form below. You will receive an email with more information regarding your request.  
 
Bruce McKinney

Bruce McKinney

Senior Systems Engineer, Verizon Wireless

Bruce McKinney competed on Florida College’s men’s basketball team for two years before graduating with his associate degree in 1991. He completed his education with a bachelor’s degree at the University of Tampa. McKinney has been in information technology for more than 20 years and is currently serving as a senior system engineer at Verizon Wireless. McKinney lives in Tampa, Florida, with his wife and two sons.
Charles Goodall
Charles Goodall

Chief Executive Officer, Alliance Calibration

Charles Goodall has spent 17 years in the information technology industry as a project manager, a technical architect, systems analyst and business information analyst. He has a bachelor’s degree in computer technology from the University of South Florida and a master’s degree in quality assurance from California State University, and his experience includes work in the telephony, data mining, tax, and paper industries. Goodall considers his primary strength to be his ability to bring together a diverse group of professionals that work together to achieve the company vision.
Darren Brackett
Darren Brackett

Customer Success Manager, Welocalize

Darren Brackett attended Florida College and graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in 1989. While at Auburn, he co-oped with IBM and after graduating began selling for IBM in Kentucky. Over the last 20 years, he has held various enterprise sales, sales operations and leadership roles for startups as well as large, global companies. Brackett lives in Georgia with his wife and two children.
Douglas Broadwell
Douglas Broadwell

System Engineer, Nou Systems, Inc.

Douglas Broadwell graduated from Florida College with his associate degree in 2009. From there, he transferred to Georgia Tech and completed a bachelor’s and master’s degree in mechanical engineering. While at Georgia Tech, Broadwell completed work-study programs with McKenney’s, Inc. and the Georgia Tech Research Institute. He is currently employed as an engineer with nou Systems doing research, data analysis and engineering in the development and testing of missile defense systems. Broadwell lives in Huntsville, Alabama, with his wife and son.
Glenn Bruns
Glenn Bruns

Senior Technology Consultant, Sierra-Cedar

Glenn Bruns attended Florida College and is actively involved as a camp director for Florida College Georgia Camp. For the past 15 years, he has held various role in technology. He began his technology career working with databases and moved into consulting for large enterprise system implementations and upgrades. Bruns and his wife live in Alpharetta, Georgia, and have three children who have all spent time at Florida College.
Johnny Hinely
Johnny Hinely

Director of Development and Wealth Management, Spotlight Asset Group

Johnny Hinely graduated from Florida College with his associate degree and finished his education at the University of Alabama. He began his professional career in sales in the home improvement sector in Washington D.C. In 2013, Hinely moved into the wealth management sector and has held various leadership roles while starting his own company. Hinely lives in Nashville, Tennessee, with his wife and three children.
Holly Johnson
Holly Johnson

HR Consultant

Holly Johnson graduated from Florida College with an associate degree in the class of 1992 and has over 12 years of human resources experience with Deloitte, one of the largest consulting companies in the world. She worked her way up through the HR organization, starting as the human resources assistant. Before leaving in 2009, she had become a regional senior manager leading the operations side of human resources. In 2012, Johnson returned to work an additional two years before deciding once again that the full-time role was not the best fit for her family. She has continued working on the side for small companies where she can utilize her experience to help them streamline processes specializing in orientation programs and employee relations. Johnson lives in Woodstock, Georgia with her husband and twins.
Dr. Matthew Barrett
Dr. Matthew Barrett

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance

Dr. Matthew Barrett graduated from Florida College in 1992 and University of Tennessee College of Medicine in 2002. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics in 2006, becoming the chief resident physician through 2007. He also completed a fellowship in joint replacement at The Anderson Clinic in Alexandria, Virginia/Washington, D.C. Barrett specializes in primary and revision joint replacement of the hip and knee. He currently serves as the medical director of the Joint Replacement Institute at Saint Thomas-Rutherford Hospital as well as the chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society since 2002, fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He has served as a reviewer for the Journal of Arthroplasty and has authored 11 published articles in major orthopedic journals and was also the primary author of two textbook chapters focused on orthopedics and joint replacement. He lives in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, with his wife and three sons.
Matt Turner
Matt Turner

CEO, GRIFFIN Solutions Group

Matt Turner gradated with an associate degree from Florida College in 1992 and completed his education with a bachelor’s degree at Western Kentucky University. He began his professional experience in retail management. In 1998, Turner changed careers and become involved in technology as a recruiter and then sales manager for various technology recruiting companies. He started a company in 2001 with a business partner that they grew to over $10 million in revenue. In 2009, Turner started his own company GRIFFIN and has been serving as president and CEO. Turner lives in Georgia with his wife and four children.
Matt Caudill
Matt Caudill

Co-Owner/Sales Manager, Metro Water Filter of Georgia

Matt Caudill attended Florida College from 1994 to 1996 and then began working in his family business in Atlanta, Georgia. He has held different roles within the company and now runs the sales division while also transitioning to the role of owner and CEO. Caudill lives in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dale Beauvais
Dale Beauvais

Chiropractor

Dale Beauvais attended Florida College from 1988 to 1990 and finished his education at Palmer College Chiropractic-Davenport in 1997. He has been a practicing chiropractor in Indiana for over 20 years. Beauvais lives in Valparaiso, Indiana, with his wife and three boys.
Tyson Bacon
Tyson Bacon

Sales Representative, Robert Dietrick Company

Tyson Bacon attended Florida College from 1992 to 1994. He began his current sales position in 1997 and has been with the company ever since. RDC specializes in material handling equipment for the building industry. Bacon is proficient in building customer-based relationships and selling techniques. He is married to his wife, Ryan, and has three kids.
Kevin Stinson
Kevin Stinson

Director of Data Management, HCA

Kevin Stinson attended Florida College in 1989. He received a B.S. in computer science from Texas A&M University and an M.B.A from WGU Tennessee. Stinson has held various roles in technology including software developer, database administrator, systems engineer and unix administrator. He then moved into various leadership roles and is currently the director of data management for HCA in Tennessee. Stinson resides in Nashville with his wife and their four children.
Dr. Ryan Sullivan
Dr. Ryan Sullivan

Doctor of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology

Dr. Ryan Sullivan has an associate degree from Florida College and a bachelor’s degree from Western Kentucky University. He earned his medical degree at the University of Tennessee and completed his internship and residency at the University of Tennessee’s Erlanger Hospital. He subsequently completed a fellowship in allergy, asthma and immunology at the University of Kansas. Sullivan is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine as well as the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. He is also a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology and of the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. Sullivan and his wife, Jennifar, have three children and stay busy playing with their kids and working on their small farm in Columbia, Tennessee.
Nick Grinnell
Nick Grinnell

Senior Claims Specialist, Sompo International

Nick Grinnell attended Florida College from 1999 to 2001 and finished his education at Tusculum College in 2005. He has been a dedicated insurance professional with 15 years of experience investigating and managing claims. Grinnell has a broad base of work experience within the insurance industry including professional lines, personal lines and public entity matters. His skills include claims handling and investigations, risk assessment and mitigation, liability exposure analysis, and policy interpretation. He lives in Alpharetta, Georgia, with his wife and two kids.

Janna Burks Shannon, RN, BSN

Retired

Janna Burks Shannon earned an associate degree from Florida College in 1976 and continued her education with an associate degree in nursing from Western Kentucky University in 1978 and a BSN from the Medical College of Georgia in 1980. She worked for 12 years in critical care before moving to Atlanta, Georgia, to work as a clinical specialist in the cardiac device industry for 18 years. She worked for Intermedics, Guidant and Medtronic. Shannon also volunteered as the camp nurse for Florida College Georgia Camp for 11 years. She is married to Stuart Shannon and has a son, Andrew, and daughter, Mary Stuart, who attended Florida College.
Dan Chaney
Dan Chaney

Preacher, Perry Church of Christ

Dan Chaney attended Florida College from 1998-2001 and has been preaching the gospel for 18 years. He was part of three different young preacher programs as he began his preaching career and says those mentoring experiences have made all the difference in the world. Chaney has preached in Texas, Georgia and Florida and has done missionary work in Jamaica and Kenya. He has served as a counselor or assistant director at Florida College Georgia Camp and is now the camp director of the North Florida Bible Camp in High Springs, Florida. He has also coached high school basketball, baseball and golf. Chaney lives in Perry, Florida, with his wife, Alicia (Matheny) Chaney, and three children. He serves there as a full-time preacher and elementary school P.E. teacher.
Curt Nettles
Curt Nettles

Superintendent, Clinton Community School District #15

Curt Nettles has been serving in the education field for more than 27 years. He has been a classroom teacher, coach, athletic director, principal and currently serves as superintendent of public schools in Clinton, Illinois. He has a master’s degree plus 36 hours. Nettles presently serves as a professional coach to administrators in other school districts. He is married and has raised three sons all of whom have attended Florida College. He also serves as an elder in the church in Normal, Illinois.
Trenton RothTrenton Roth

Math Teacher, Reed-Custer High School

Trenton Roth has 24 years of secondary teaching experience: nine at the junior-high level and 15 at the high-school level. He has taught virtually every math course from Pre-Algebra to Algebra 1 to Geometry to Algebra 2 to Trigonometry to Pre-Calculus to AP Calculus. Roth has a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in mathematics and secondary education from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, in 1993. He also earned a field-based master’s degree in teaching and learning from Saint Xavier University in Chicago, Illinois, in 1998.
Bill Sink
Bill Sink

Corporate Director HR, Aldi, Inc.

Bill Sink graduated from Florida College with an associate degree and finished his education at Indiana University. He began his professional career in banking in 1992 in northwest Indiana. In 1998, Sink joined Aldi Inc. and worked for several years as a district manager. From there, he became a director of finance and administration and in 2017 became one of Aldi’s directors of human resources. Sink currently lives in Bristol, Illinois, with his wife Shannon and their four sons. He is actively involved with the Chicagoland chapter of The Hutchinson Bell and is currently serving as camp director for the Florida College Chicagoland Camp.
